Education
in Colombia
Education is an umbrella term that brings about an inherent and
permanent change in a person's thinking and capacity to do things, it is
the process of facilitating learning, acquisition of knowledge, skills, values,
beliefs and habits. Colombia has an eleven-year system of elementary and
secondary education, consisting of five years of elementary education, four
years of lower secondary education and two years of upper secondary education. Unfortunately, as for me, education in Colombia is really bad and it has
been shown in the results of different national and international tests. I have
always wondered the reason why it is like that. Are we Colombians silly? or
what is the real reason behind this mess. According to my experience in the
academy, I have made a list of reasons why I think Education in Colombia is as
bad as I mentioned before. I noticed that education is unfair and unequal, I
also blame teachers, the government because of the very low budget that is
predestined to education and also the lack of longing for better opportunities
and a better future. In my country there are two “types” of education the first
one is the private one, and the other is the public one, it should be pointed
out that the second one is in a huge disadvantage in comparison with the first
one.
Firstly, we have public education; it is basically where people from lower social classes go to.
When I said that education in Colombia is very unequal and unfair, I was talking about this type
of education. Nobody can deny that if you have money you can have access to a good education,
if you do not... you will have to be okay with the misery that the government gives you. It is "free",
you do not have to pay any money for learning, but you have to buy your books and all the materials
you need for attending classes. However, infrastructure of public schools is not the appropriate.
Must public schools in Colombia, do not have what they really need so as to offer their students
a complete education. Let me give you an example, it is very common to go to a public school and
to see that there are not enough chairs for all the students, the majority of classrooms are damaged
or are too small for the quantity of students. As a consequence of this, some students do not enjoy
classes and do not learn in a meaningful way. Moreover, teachers are not good enough, most of them
have worked for many years in the same school and they have taught with the same boring
methodology. Everything changes except the way they teach. In this type of education there is
neither good quality nor coverage. Talking about coverage of preschool, secondary and higher
education, and its quality, the situation in our country is very sad. The coverage consists in
expanding the possibilities for educating as many people as possible. The Government proposed
to increase it by 50 percent, but what it did was to put more students in the same classrooms
as before, without expanding facilities or hiring more professors. Then it was mess.
On the other hand, talking about quality, it is a pity to recognize that only 10 percent of the
superior Colombian institutions have high quality accreditation.
Talking about teachers, I have always noticed that since I was on primary school,
there are teachers that teach with a very boring methodology. Everything changes, but no the way they teach;
as a consequence of this students do not feel motivated at all, they just worry about having a grade
so as to pass a course or a subject but they do not care about learning or enjoying the subject.
Secondly, we have private education. In my personal opinion, it is so
much better owing to it counts with the majority of aspects and things that
public education do not, such as classrooms in good conditions, technology,
different spaces for developing a class, teachers with a better teaching
methodology, there is a maximum of students per classroom, and so on. This type
of education is expensive but its quality is higher. The reason why is because
due to the fact that it is expensive, they can afford their expenses by
themselves, while public schools depend on the government for everything.
Colombian government should invest more money in education, in public
education. The budget for war should decrease and they should establish
priorities, if they want good citizens they should think of their education.
Education is the key and the solution for many issues. If public education had
a good budget, everybody could learn and in the future, many Colombians would
have a better life conditions...

1. I am really concerned about the use of three specific ideas literally taken out from the Internet. At first, I thought that you would be making the appropriate citation of these sources. However, this never happened throughout the paper and in this way, you are plagiarizing some else's ideas. This is the first draft of a final paper that will be later on presented as the conclusion of our Critical and Creative thinking class. Therefore, these type of situations can no longer be accepted if we are attempting to improve the quality of education in our country. My invitation is to follow the guidelines accordingly and revise carefully the content of any paper you may present in the future.
2. Additionally, do not forget that this is an argumentative essay where every statement we make concerning the topic selected must be supported with details and ideas that are connected with the major concepts reviewed in our class. It seems to me that you are not providing solid arguments to state that education in Colombia is 'bad' (as you call it here). An in-depth analysis should be made if the purpose of your paper is to make such a claim.
3. There are plenty of grammar aspects you should correct in your paper. Some punctuation, tense and word use aspects are worth revising.
4. Last but not least, work hard on a new version of your paper that allows me to see a critical analysis of the issue(s) you want to address. Ideas are worth sharing as long as they are properly supported.
